Homework

A Leaf Treader

I have been treading on leaves all day until I am autumn tired

Lord knows all the color and form of leaves I have trodden on and mired

Perhaps I have put forth too much strength or been too fierce from fear...

I have safely trodden underfoot the leaves of another year

All summer long they were overhead more lifted up than I

To come to their final place in earth they had to pass me by

All summer long I thought I heard them whispering under their breath

And when they came it seemed with a will to carry me with them to death

They spoke to the fugitive in my heart as if it were leaf to leaf

They tapped at my eyelids and touched my lips with an invitation to grief

But it was no reason I had to go because they had to go...

Now UP MY KNEE to keep atop another year of snow.

Make your own Moon Craters!

Materials:

A Plate

Flour

Four different sized rocks

What to do:

  1. First put some flour in a plate.

  2. Then get your rocks and put them in a row from smallest to largest.

  3. Get the largest rock and drop it into the flour from about 1 metre.

  4. When you have dropped it in pick it up carefully out of the flour and look at the hole.

  5. If you would like draw a diagram of your craters.

  6. Once you used the flour with all four rocks try it with sand.

My Prediction:

I predict that when you drop the rocks into the flour it will make a deeper hole because the flour is softer so it will have more effect than the sand because the sand is a lot harder and thicker.

On the way to school I cross a bridge and there is a cliff nearby. At the edge of the cliff there is a fudge shop. To enter the shop I need to fidget with a gadget and nudge the door towards the ridge of the cliff. The fudge was in the fridge but the door wouldn't budge... So now the shop's budget is close to zero

Love's Gift
I saw spring with my heart today:

A small girl, skipping, came my way.

Her Daddy's smile was on her face,

Her petticoat dripped fresh-torn lace.

A bunch of yellow-gold I spied

Behind her back - Oh woe betide!

Fresh daffodils! "For you," she said.

Plucked from my neighbour's flowerbed.

NAPLAN writing

The Light Kingdom

Once there was a boy. This boy did not have a name. He was a tall dark boy who liked exploring in the wonderful world around him. One day his mother said that they were going to go on a tour through Africa to explore. So the boy went upstairs and packed all his dark black shirts and all of his denim jeans and then came back downstairs. The boy carried all of his big and extremely heavy bags to the car and then they drove all the way to the airport.

They flew for about one day and a half and then they got off the ‘plane and called a taxi and then they drove all the way to the hotel that they were staying at. Then they decided to sleep for a bit. The next day they started their tour of Africa. They had started their tour outside the hotel. They started for the jungle. They had seen lots of animals like the king of the jungle - the lion. Then they asked their driver if they could stop to go to the toilet.

The driver said that they could only stop for about three minutes. So they all got out and then they went to the toilet. The boy heard the driver say that they needed to go but he was not ready and then he heard the car drive off into the dark and mysterious distance. The boy tried to run after the car and then the boy stopped. There was a fork in the road. The boy decided that he would go to the left and look for the car. So he started to run towards the left passage when he saw that there was a hole on the ground with some stairs.

He decided to go down the stairs and see what was down there. He ran down and saw that there was a whole castle down there. He ran towards the big and bright castle to see where he was. He ran as fast as he could and noticed that there were two guards standing next to the door. He asked one of the guards what was the place that he had found was. They said that it was the kingdom of light. The guards said that he could go inside if he liked.

He ran inside and then he heard voices that sounded familiar. He ran down and saw that it was his mum and dad. They said that they were caught when they had gone near there and they were thrown into the jail. The boy tried to pick the lock and free them but a guard that was passing saw him and threw him in jail. He had still got his pin that he was picking the lock with first and then he opened his cell door and then he heard the guard again. He closed the door on his cell and then waited for the guard to get out of sight.

The boy opened his parents’ cell and then was about to run out when he heard even more voices. He turned around and found that all of the other people who where in the jail were people who had been on the tours before. He opened all of their cells and then ran for the stairs back to Africa when he heard a yell behind him. He turned around and noticed that there were guards chasing them. He ran for the stairs and when he got there he saw a button.

When every one was through he pushed the button and then ran up and the hole in the ground started closing. He ran up and then he fell to the ground and noticed that there was a hand on his leg. The hole was nearly closed. He hit the hand off with his leg and then climbed out just in time. His mother said, “Let’s never go on holiday again and now you have a name. I will call you Brave."
